This was an e-mail sent to me from Hawaii
I came across your website in hopes of finding out how to build
a bird cage. I guess I should feel very fortunate that we have
the birds here in Hawaii in the wild! They normally travel in
flocks or 10, 20 or even 30. They come to my yard everyday like
clock work at the same time in the morning. My yard is usually
quite until they arrive with all the chirping and chattering.
That's my cue to go outside and feed them. I sit with a handful
of seeds as they cautiously come one by one to eat and the next
thing I know they are all over me eating the seeds as they fall
out of my hand. Some times I come out with an apple cut in half
and they seem to enjoy it just as much. How wonderful it is to
experience all of this, as I am blessed by gods little creatures.
I don't know how these birds got here as they are not native to
Hawaii yet they are all around. I guess some of the captive birds
got away and started breeding in the wild. Here in Hawaii we have
the most ideal breeding conditions for birds, beautiful green
mountains and lots of fresh fruits like papayas, bananas, guavas,
lilikois etc to sustain their little lives. I just started seeing
these wild birds about 15 years ago. We also have another type
of finch here in Hawaii called the Manjito! It's a beautiful shiny
emerald green color with a white circle around it's black eye.
They have a very high pitched melodic type of song. The only way
I can describe it is like the sound of a canary without the warbling
effect.
Sorry, did'nt mean to take up too much of your time but I just
wanted to share this with you. You have a very nice website and
put a lot of work into it! It's just great!
